Does Kion support AWS Multi-session Support?

Follow

On January 16, 2025, AWS announced the introduction of multi-session support, a new feature which enables AWS customers to access multiple AWS accounts simultaneously in the AWS console. This feature is available as an opt-in on a per user, per browser basis.

With version 3.13 and above, Kion supports AWS Multi-session. You can enable for your organization from System Settings > AWS Access and users can then individually enable from My User Settings.

For versions prior to 3.13, Kion does not support AWS’s multi-session functionality and we recommend opting-out of this capability at this time. Users who attempt to use multi-session capabilities may result in unexpected behavior or errors when attempting to federate into the AWS console via Kion.

Next Steps

  1. Enable Multi-Session Support in Kion: This will allow your system users to make use of this new feature, which is off for each user by default. Navigate to Settings > System Settings > AWS Access > Advanced and enable the button for Allow use of multi-session federation. Select Update AWS Access Settings at the bottom of the page to save this change.
    1. This change now makes the feature available to your users to enable but is not enabled for them by default.
  2. Enable Multi-Session Support by User in Kion: Each user that wishes to use this functionality should enable it within their own Kion user settings: Select your user profile at the top right and choose My User Settings. In the sub-menu that appears on the next page, select AWS Multi-Session. Enable the button for AWS Multi-Session support.
  3. Enable Multi-Session Support by User in the AWS Console: In the AWS console after you've federated into an account from Kion, select your login name at the top right and choose Turn on multi-session support.

Troubleshooting

If you receive a 400 error while attempting to federate from Kion into an AWS account, you have likely enabled the multi-session support in your AWS console before enabling this feature in Kion. Please follow the steps in the Next Steps section above to enable the support for this feature in Kion.

If you enable multi-session support and run into problems accessing the AWS management console, we recommend clearing your browser cookies and then disabling the feature. Please refer to the AWS documentation for more information.
