Your Kion Dashboard

You can build a custom dashboard on the Kion landing page for easy access to the links, information, and metrics that are most important to you. The contents of your Kion dashboard are unique to your login, so the settings you choose will not affect the dashboard for other users at your organization.

The dashboard is made up of summary cards. You will have a chance to choose and customize your summary cards upon first logging in after installing/upgrading Kion, but you can always manage them later in your user settings. We display the Favorites and Unread Notifications cards by default (and these cannot be removed), but you can also add Spending, Compliance, Quick Cloud Access, Org Chart Quick Access, Activity Feed, and Cloud Rules cards, as shown below.

Demonstration

Icons

You may see the following icons next to OUs and projects on this page:

  • On track. Spending is in accordance with the project spend plan. For an OU, this means all child projects below the OU are in accordance with their spend plans.
  • Overburning. An overburning event has been triggered for this project, which indicates a spending threshold has been reached or exceeded. To learn the triggers that caused this event, see the Enforcements tab on the project details page.
  • Overspending. Spending is more than is available through the spend plan. For OUs, this means the aggregate spend for the OU is greater than the aggregate planned value.
  • Funding Expired. The project/OU does not have any active funding sources for its spend plan(s).
  • Archived. The project/OU has been archived. It remains visible and preserves all associated financial information, but no new projects or OUs can be attached to it.
  • Has Exemption. The project/OU has a policy with an exemption.
  • Enforcement Triggered. On a project, this indicates that one or more enforcements have been triggered. When used for a notification, this indicates a warning. To learn more, see the Enforcements tab on the project details page. Triggered enforcements will show Triggered in the Status column on the right.

Spending Summary Card

All values on the spending summary card adjust based on your dropdown menu selection of Lifetime Spend and Spending This Month.

The spending summary card displays the following:

  • Total amount spent for the selected spending period. This includes spending for all cloud resources to which the user has, at a minimum, browse financial access. The default timeframe shown here can be set in My User Settings.
  • A bar chart showing the total amount spent over time. This is not shown on the Spending This Month view.

Click on All Projects on the top right of the card to view a list of your projects.

Unread Notifications Card

The unread notifications card shows the number of unread notifications grouped by type (critical, warning, request, success, or informational). Click on a value to view the notifications of that type, or click All Notifications to view all notifications.

Compliance Card

The compliance summary card displays the following for all resources to which you have access (regardless of project or OU). For more info about findings that contribute to this score, click Compliance Overview in the top right corner.

The compliance card displays the following:

  • A doughnut chart showing the proportion of compliant vs non-compliant checks and the severity of the non-compliant checks. You can hover over a color for a count of checks at that severity. The colors on compliance charts represent:
    • Green: compliant checks.
    • Maroon: non-compliant checks of critical severity.
    • Red: non-compliant checks of high severity.
    • Orange: non-compliant checks of medium severity.
    • Yellow: non-compliant checks of low severity.
    • Blue: non-compliant checks of informational severity.
  • A compliance score weighted by severity of non-compliant checks. A lower score is better, and a score of 0 means no compliance issues. Learn more in the Compliance Score article.
  • The total number of compliance checks for resources to which you have access.

Quick Cloud Access Card

The cloud access card provides an easy way to log in to all your cloud accounts. It displays a list of accounts and cloud access roles (CARs) you most recently used to access the cloud. Click on a CAR name to log into your cloud provider's console using the listed CAR, or, for accounts where short-term access keys (STAKs) are enabled, to use a STAK to gain temporary access to the account.

You can click the star to the right of an account to favorite it, which pins it to this list. This makes the account easily accessible regardless of the last time you accessed it.

Favorites Card

The favorites card displays your starred OUs and projects. You can choose whether to view spend data or compliance data for the starred OUs/projects using the dropdown menu on the top right.

To add an OU or project to this list, find it under OUs > All OUs or Projects > All Projects and click the star to the right of its name. Click a star within the favorites card to unfavorite an item and remove it from this list.

OUs. Click the OUs tab for a list of your favorite OUs, including the OU name and status icons. On the right of the OU name, you will see the following:

  • Spending This Month. The number of projects under this OU grouped by project status (including projects in child OUs). The colors reflect the project's status as shown below:
    • On track: Spending is in accordance with the project spend plan.
    • Overburning: An overburning event has been triggered for this project, which indicates a spending threshold has been reached or exceeded. To learn the triggers that caused this event, see the Enforcements tab on the project details page.
    • Funding expired: The project does not have any active funding sources on the project spend plan.
  • Compliance View. A flat doughnut chart showing the proportion of compliant vs non-compliant checks and the severity of the non-compliant checks. You can hover over a color for a count of checks at that severity. There is also a compliance score weighted by severity of non-compliant checks. A lower score is better, and a score of 0 means no compliance issues. Learn more in the Compliance Score article.

Projects. Click the Projects tab for a list of your favorite projects, including the project name and status icons. On the right of the project name, you'll see the following:

  • Spending This Month. A progress bar showing the amount spent out of the amount planned for this project. The percent value is displayed below the progress bar; hover over the gauge to see the dollar value spent/planned. Next to the spend progress bar, there is a cloud access dropdown menu. You can use this menu to choose a cloud access role and federate into the cloud account associated with the project.

Organization Chart Quick Access Card

The org chart quick access card gives you one-click access to view your organization chart. Click Go to Org Chart to open the org chart.

Activity Feed Card

The activity feed card shows the history of changes in Kion. This includes all users' activity to which you have access. All users can see their own activity.

You can filter the activity displayed using the dropdown menu on the top right of the card, which allows you to show All Activity, Compliance (including activity for both checks and standards), Resource Policy, OU, Project, Account, or Cloud Access Role history. You can also filter by keyword using the text box next to the search icon.

Cloud Rules Card

The cloud rules card shows a list of cloud rules to which you have access. We only show cloud rules that effect at least one item.

Next to each cloud rule, we indicate the number of OUs and projects (respectively) to which the cloud rule is applied.
