Change an Account's Billing Source
Last updated: October 27, 2026
Use Change Billing Source to point an account in Kion at a different billing source. The most common case is an AWS account that has moved from one AWS Organization (management/payer account) to another, but the option works the same way for Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud accounts.
Note: Changing the billing source only updates Kion's records. It does not move the account in your cloud provider. For AWS, move the account to the new AWS Organization first (leave the old organization and accept the invitation from the new management account), and make sure the new management account is already added to Kion as a billing source.
Before you begin
You need the Manage Accounts global permission to see the Edit option on an account.
The new billing source must already exist in Kion and must be for the same cloud provider as the account (for example, an AWS account can only move to another AWS billing source).
This option isn't available for custom accounts.
Change an account's billing source
In the left navigation menu, click Accounts & Scopes > All Accounts.
Find the account, click the ellipsis menu on the right, and select Edit.
In the side menu, click Change Billing Source. The Current Billing Source field shows the billing source the account is associated with today and the timeframe it covers.
Under Reason for Changing, select one of the following:
Current billing source was selected by mistake. Use this when the account was added to the wrong billing source in Kion. Kion removes any historical financial records associating the account with the current billing source.
Moving account to different billing source. Use this when the account actually moved to a new payer. Kion keeps the historical financial records associating the account with the current billing source.
For New Billing Source, select the billing source the account should now belong to. The billing source's start date is shown below the field.
If you chose Moving account to different billing source, select a Start date (month and year). Kion reflects the account's spend in the new billing source as of this month. We suggest selecting the month the account moved to the new payer.
The start date can't be later than the current month.
The start date can't be earlier than the new billing source's start date, or than the earliest month the account can have in Kion.
Select the confirmation checkbox:
For a mistaken billing source: I understand that historical financial records associated to the current billing source will be removed.
For a move: I understand that this cannot be undone.
Click Change Billing Source.
Kion shows the message "Associated billing source was changed successfully!" and opens the account's page.
What happens to the account
Selected by mistake: Kion updates the existing account record to use the new billing source. The account keeps its ID in Kion.
Moving to a different billing source: Kion ends the account's association with the old billing source and creates a new account record on the new billing source, starting in the month you selected. Spend before that month stays with the old billing source, and spend from that month on is reported under the new one. The month you select can show spend under both billing sources.
The account stays in the same project.
Custom variable overrides, cloud access role associations, and labels carry over to the new record.
The account gets a new ID in Kion. Update any scripts, API calls, or bookmarks that use the old account ID.
The change is recorded in the audit log.
