Kion Remote MCP Server - Overview
Last updated: October 1, 2026
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard allowing AI tools and clients to connect to external tools and other systems for the purpose of gathering data, storing data, and executing functions. Beginning with version 3.17.2, Kion offers the Kion Remote MCP Server, an MCP implementation built directly into the Kion platform. The Kion Remote MCP Server provides a rich set of tools to interact with Kion allowing you to have a first-class experience with other tools and giving your AI use cases the power they need to get value from Kion.
Benefits Over the Standalone Python MCP Server
The Kion Remote MCP Server represents a significant shift in architecture as compared to Kion's previous standalone Python MCP server and therefore is an easier experience for most use cases. The Remote MCP Server also has many of the tools that our in-app agent, Lux, has available. Here’s a list of specific benefits:
The Remote MCP Server is part of the Kion application. There’s no need to install a local MCP server or worry about workstation OS/security dependencies to use it.
The Remote MCP Server has new capabilities such as being able to perform functions with Scopes, Cloud Rules, and Enforcements while continuing to provide the same capabilities as the Standalone Python MCP Server for OUs, Budgets, and CARs.
The Remote MCP Server is capable of being deployed as an enterprise-wide application through your AI platform of choice. For example, both Anthropic and OpenAI provide a way for an AI system administrator to define an MCP connection for all users. In this way, Kion just becomes a new tool to use within the clients for those AI systems. Users simply authorize and begin using the tool.
Getting Started
Using the Kion Remote MCP Server requires some configuration by your Kion administrator and potentially your AI client administrators. We’ve provided guides for some of the common AI platforms as part of this documentation. Select your AI platform below:
Additional Documentation
Other documents you will find in this portion of the documentation provide additional information about the Kion Remote MCP Server. See these items:

Deployment Configuration Guides
These guides provide Kion and AI client administrators with the instructions they need to configure Kion and deploy changes needed for various AI clients.
These guides provide end-users with instructions for how to configure the Kion Remote MCP Server in their own AI clients once an administrator has performed the appropriate deployment steps.
